General Membership Meeting November 2023

BRARA General Membership Meeting minutes for 7-November-2023

The BRARA monthly association meeting was held in person at the Boca West Branch of the Palm Beach County Library and via Zoom conference. The meeting was called to order by the President, Bruce KO4XL at 6:30pm local. Attending: 18 at the library and 12 Zoom participants.  The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.  Officers and directors provided an update of their club related activities followed by a presentation by David Alperstein N4DOV, about his mobile installation.

Bruce reported that this is the last formal meeting of the year. Ballots will be sent soon to elect Directors. The new Directors will in turn elect the officers.

Expenses include $370.19 for director’s insurance and $168.69 for new custom bookcase in shack

Not included: $ 87.92 for LP bottles not cleared

Available Balance includes $5,000 cash reserve.
Balance available for operating capital $6,490.64

Mike reported that the October minutes have been uploaded to the BRARA Blog. Motion to accept By Jay S N2ELG, seconded by Jeff S K4BH. Motion carried. New members Dan Thomas KQ4LVP, Carol Sjursen KJ4AWB, Ed Raffo KQ4LIX, and Arnold Hartman.  Currently have 197 members.

Jay is working on organizing material for the next auction which will be December 2.  He is at the Shack most Wednesday and Saturday mornings. DMR started working again.

We’re on the downhill side of hurricane season.

Membership Chairman: Henry WA2ROA

Radiator Grille is coming up November 18. Don’t forget to RSVP. New Ham Gary Lipkin KQ4MEV. The Lindeman family has donated a large American Flag wall plaque they built to BRARA for use on the planned memorial wall in the Shack.

Vice President: Ralph W1DAR

Ralph has been working with Jay on the auction. Tubes have been ordered for the amp.

Director at Large: Lou K4LA

Lou reported that there will be a ITU WRC (World Radio Conference) 11/20 to 12/15 in Dubai to review worldwide frequency allocations. Items impacting ham radio include a secondary mobile allocation between 6.125 and 7.125 MHz. Another is assigning aeronautical mobile to 144 and 146 MHz as primary. Finally they are looking at a satellite allocation between 1240 and 1300 MHz. Donate to the ARRL spectrum defense fund to help the ARRL fund its continuing presence trying to influence these meetings. Also write your Congressional representative opposing these changes.

George says we should be lubricating the cable on the crank up tower monthly.
