BRARA General Membership Meeting minutes for 3-October-2023

The BRARA monthly association meeting was held in person at the Boca West Branch of the Palm Beach County Library and via Zoom conference. The meeting was called to order by the Vice President, Ralph W1DAR at 6:33pm local. Attending: 19 at the library and 16 Zoom participants.  The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.  This was followed by a moment of silence in memory of Silent Keys Walter Dreyfus, W4WCD and John Cole, N1QFH Officers and directors provided an update of their club related activities followed by a presentation by Mike Walker, VA3MW on Flex Radio.

We’ve had comments that Echolink hasn’t been working on the BRARA repeater. The Echolink interface is at Bruce’s KO4XL location. He can check on it when he gets back from his trip. Also been issues with DMR. The repeater is not connected to the Internet which resulted in on air and hotspot users being unable to communicate. Need to contact Jerry Z W4BFL who manages the link.

We are looking for members who are interested in serving as directors. Elections are in November. Contact Ralph W1DAR or Bruce KO4XL.

Members have expressed interest in a trip to the Dauer car museum and a train show.

Mike reported that the September minutes have been uploaded to the BRARA Blog. Motion to accept Ken K8KDS, seconded by Fran KC2JVS. Motion carried. New members Rich Schwartz N1SZE, Steve Wheelock K4IM, Ed Raffo KQ4LIX and Arnold Hartman.  Currently have 193 members.

Income includes $207.76 in memberships and $101.94 in donations.
($97.52 was a donation in memory of Walt, and $4.42 was a donation testing our payment email for
PayPal)

Expenses include $74.77 for check printing, $6.11 for miscellaneous and $370.19 for director’s
insurance.

Not included: $ 87.92 for LP bottles not cleared and $168.68 for new custom bookcase in shack

Available Balance includes $5,000 cash reserve.

Jay is working on organizing material for the next auction.  We need excess radio stuff for the fall auction. He is at the Shack most Wednesday and Saturday mornings.

We’re on the downhill side of hurricane season. Still need to stay prepared. SET in Miami-Dade next Saturday.

Jamboree on the Air will be the weekend of 10/20-22. You can contact Sam at ws4bsa@gmail.com. They currently have 220 scouts registered. The more radio operators they can get the better to keep the wait down.
