General Membership Meeting January 2026

BRARA General Membership Meeting minutes for January 6 2026

The BRARA monthly association meeting was held in person and using Zoom conference.  There were 10 attending via Zoom and 22 in the library. The meeting was called to order by BRARA Director Benett Rosen AC2NI at 6:31 pm local, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. This was followed by those present in the room and on Zoom introducing themselves. Our speaker this month is ARRL Southeastern Division Director Mickey Baker N4MB who will talk about the future of Amateur Radio.

Board members and officers present: Benett AC2NI, Mike K8BQ, Jay S N2ELG, Bonnie KC2JVS, Henry WA2ROA.

Mike has posted the November General Meeting minutes to the BRARA Blog. Henry, N0HNK made a motion to accept the minutes seconded by Ed W2SI . Motion was carried.

Still working on locating a new site for our repeaters. County doesn’t want us on their sites. They have security issues. Have a couple of places we’re working on. Lot of work going on at the Shack. Barry leading a team that’s cleaning up and fixing things. Stop by between 9:30 and 12:30 Wednesdays and Saturdays. Membership as of today, 47 paid for 2026 plus 14 Life members.

Income includes: memberships, auction, refund of $18.77 for returned light

Not included:  $155 in checks not cleared in 2025

 

Expenses:  $2,377.07

Expenses include: $36.31 for memory module, $18.77 for new light that was returned for refund, $31.98 for new lights, $446.59 for Radiator Grille,  $367.64 for Directors Insurance, $77.04 for new lock, and $234 for one year post office box, $630.39 for new computers,$13.98 for water, $67.14 for fans for DMR repeater,  $225 for antenna tuner,  $61.53 for miscellaneous computer supplies, $149 for Events calendar plug-in, and $52 for two months of Constant Contact

Above amounts include reserve funds of $5,000

Balance available for operating capital after deposits and expenses clear: $9,874.27

Bonnie discussed paying for memberships if the website doesn’t show the correct value. Working to correct the payment portion of the website. Discussion on adding Zelle as a payment method. We will look at it.

Shed next to the Shack is falling apart. It belongs to the County. Barry has seen some shipping containers for $3000 to $4000. Can’t ignore it because we store a lot of equipment in it.

Other Announcements:

Jeff K4BH announced that Broward County ARES will be doing Winter FD at Quiet Waters Park. Looking for clubs to take on portions of the activity. Looking for operators as well as watchers.

Harold K4KZM will be working on 160 meter WAS on FT8 from the Shack nights. People are welcome to join him.
